Roger Wolcott (1847-1901), a Boston lawyer, enjoyed a brilliant political career after graduating from Harvard. He served as governor of Massachusetts from 1896 to 1900. This portrait was made after his death. It was commissioned by Edith Prescott and cast by Roman Bronze of New York.
Frances Grimes and Henry Hering, Saint-Gaudens' studio assistants, helped him complete this work.
