Acquired by Doctor Faure, who left his collection to the city of Aix les Bains in 1942 with the provision that it be turned into a museum. The Musée Faure opened in 1949.

Comment

Sargent painted six portraits of Judith Gautier during a summer spent at Saint Enogat in Brittany. Four of these portraits remain in France. (Source: Charles Merritt Mount, "John Singer Sargent and Judith Gautier", Art Quartely, Vol. 18, n°1, Spring 1955, pp. 136-143).
