Historical

Entered the collections of the château de Versailles in the reign of Louis-Philippe, around 1830. Part of the collections of the Galeries Historiques. Some copies were commissioned to be offered to European courts and enlightened amateurs. This version could be from the studio of Charles Willson Peale.


Related works

The original portrait was commissioned in 1779 by the United Supreme Council of Philadelphia and kept at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. Other versions exist in the United States collections.
