Comment

After he had lived in England, Schonborn painted many genre scenes such as this one. His paintings frequently evoke the everyday life of children in picturesque situations. The artist, a noted lover of horses, made many sketches of that animal which are echoed here, in the donkey's anatomy. (Source: records of the Musée de la Picardie, Amiens)
