Tuileries Garden Benches Sponsorship Campaign

The Louvre is launching a long-running operation in benefit of the historical benches that have been present in the Tuileries Garden since the 19th century. This campaign aims to support an ambitious project to restore and recreate the iconic benches of the largest garden in Paris, in order to improve the visitor experience.
Every year, millions of visitors stroll the Tuileries Garden. Its benches have witnessed many stories and encounters. The Louvre heads the crowdfunding campaign that will breathe new life into these historic benches.
Tuileries Garden lovers are invited to do their part by sponsoring one of the 165 benches, personally or collectively.

These cast-iron benches, installed in the 19th century throughout the garden’s groves, green rooms and terraces, have come to symbolise the Parisian art de vivre. There are two types of benches: the first one-sided and rectilinear, designed to invite contemplation, and the second double-sided with lion-paw feet, well suited to dialogue and exchange.
You can opt to collectively participate in the restoration of ‘donor benches’ by making a voluntary donation. You can also sponsor a bench in your own or your family’s name, or dedicate it as a gift or as a tribute to someone, for any donation of € 5,000. A plaque will be attached to the backrest of the bench you sponsor for a period of ten years. Bench sponsorships can also be undertaken as a group, as a family or with friends.
When you make a donation, you are taking action to support the preservation of this green oasis created at the heart of the capital nearly 500 years ago!
Dina Belenkaya and the art of chess at the Musée du Louvre
Dina Belenkaya, born in 1993, has been playing chess since she was three years old. She became a chess grandmaster in 2016. Today, she plays chess internationally, while also balancing work as a social media content creator. To mark her two special chess matches being played at the Musée du Louvre – one against international master Julien Song, the other against 6-year-old prodigy Lucie – Belenkaya visited the collection of the Department of Decorative Arts. Here, she shares her take on four chess pieces and talks about how they fit into the way she sees her craft.

Following a meticulous course of conservation treatment, Eugène Delacroix’s Entry of the Crusaders into Constantinople is returning to the Red Rooms, joining a number of other famous works by the artist. By restoring the piece’s colours to their original brilliance, once darkened by yellowed varnish, the conservators’ work has allowed its complex significance to shine through once more.
